There is something genuinely unsettling about music that does more than create an atmosphere—music that seems to inhabit a world of its own. EPTA7, the Irish-Italian industrial metal and dark alternative project originally formed in Dublin in 2012, has mastered precisely that art. After a long hiatus, the project returned in 2026 with its debut full-length album, Here Come the Freaks, a 12-track concept work where industrial metal, dark electronics, cinematic sound design, and psychological horror collide.
While comparisons to influential names such as Ministry, Nine Inch Nails, and Rammstein may inevitably arise, EPTA7 is clearly pursuing something more ambitious than genre imitation. The project has constructed its own disturbing narrative and visual universe, and “The Walls Breathe,” the album’s fifth track, is perhaps one of the clearest demonstrations of that vision. The song begins almost deceptively, with dark cinematic synthesizer sequences creating an ominous sense of anticipation. Suddenly, savage bursts of drumming shatter the atmosphere, accompanied by thunderous guitar riffs and distorted bass lines. These explosive interruptions feel almost like warning signals, building tension before the track finally detonates into its first verse.
From that point onward, “The Walls Breathe” becomes a genuine metal pandemonium. Its verses move with an intriguing restraint, allowing the nightmarish atmosphere to develop gradually before the melodic lines transform into increasingly powerful and guttural vocal passages. There is an extraordinary sense of unstoppable energy throughout the performance, but also an underlying feeling of terror and despair—as though something unseen is steadily approaching. The vocals are particularly remarkable. EPTA7 moves between distorted aggression and melodic expression with extraordinary precision, creating the impression of multiple psychological states inhabiting the same composition. The central idea of a voice emerging from the walls becomes almost tangible. You can practically hear that whisper behind the music, creating an unsettling sensation that is simultaneously fascinating and frightening.

Then comes the beautifully contrasting bridge, where soft female vocals introduce an unexpected fragility into the darkness. Rather than weakening the song, this moment intensifies it, providing a striking emotional contrast before the heavier elements return. Foot-stomping rhythms, powerful guitar lines, distorted bass, and raw vocal textures subsequently converge into an enormous wall of sound. The accompanying music video further reinforces this disturbing universe, transforming the track into a cinematic experience that feels deeply rooted in Gothic Metal, Dark Rock, and Industrial Metal. “The Walls Breathe” is not simply heavy—it is atmospheric, theatrical, psychologically charged, and meticulously constructed.
The rest of Here Come the Freaks reinforces this extraordinary impression. The opening “The Fog” immediately establishes the album’s raw and impactful energy, while “Walking Ghost” delivers devastating riffs and memorable vocal lines. Originally featured on EPTA7’s 2014 Eptasystem demo/EP alongside “Moon Canvas,” “Fallen Gabriel,” and the title track “Eptasystem,” these earlier compositions have been brilliantly re-released. Remarkably, their raw intensity remains intact while their presence within the new album demonstrates how naturally the project’s earlier identity connects with its contemporary material.

EPTA7, however, is already looking beyond Here Come the Freaks. The project has entered a remarkable creative phase with “Zombies of the Third Millennium,” the first glimpse into its upcoming second concept album, Schengen Reload. Where Here Come the Freaks turns inward toward psychological horror, trauma, and internal fears, the forthcoming album looks outward, confronting the anxieties of contemporary European society.
“Zombies of the Third Millennium” is a devastating statement, examining a society increasingly controlled by algorithms, political manipulation, borders, and systems that can reduce individuals to passive participants in their own lives. Its unapologetic lyrics are matched by smashing guitar riffs, outstanding solos, relentless drums and bass, and another exceptional combination of male and female melodic and distorted vocals.
