Kirstie.V thanks for being with us today at Planet Singer! Dance, Pop, and EDM are some of the main genres that can describe your music style, but there is much more than that in your songs. We are thrilled to know more about your music and your artistic journey, so let’s start from the very beginning. When did you discover your passion for music and songwriting?

Hi! Firstly, Thanks for having me here and taking the time to interview me. My passion for music started at a very young age, as far back as I can remember, from the age of 4 I was put into a dancing & singing club and used to love it when the teacher would announce we were doing some singing that day, grabbing the microphone was an exciting feeling!

I used to sing in my bedroom and have all my favourite CDs as a child, acting out music videos and really listening & embracing the lyrics, the way the songs were produced would always make me feel very creative. I would spend hours watching the music TV channels, copying lyrics down on paper, learning them, and playing around with them. I’ve always been very intrigued by the music industry and creative myself.

Your latest single “Lied” is such a great track. It goes straight to the heart of the listeners who, thanks to the engaging lyrics, resonate personally with the vibes of the song and its meaning. Can you tell us more about this single?

Of course, ‘LIED’ is my latest single, and just like everything else I have written and released, is based on true events, true feelings, and emotions and I believe this is what helps it resonate with listeners as most people have been through similar situations and feelings.

‘Lied’ is about a time in my life where I lost a relationship very close to my heart, the feeling of not being together, possibly with other people but still finding a way to interact and have some form of communication through social media.

Many couples go through a scenario where they’ve split up, ‘blocked’ and then ‘unblocked’ each other to check-up on the other person due to still having feelings and this song is exactly about that time in my life where I couldn’t cut off those feelings and wanted to see how he was doing and of course, vice versa.

“Lied” seems to carry a similar intention and narrative to your previous album, “I Am Woman,” a brilliant release from 2022 where we can find gems such as “Nightmare,” “L.I.F.T.E.D” and the intimate “No Love Lost.” How important is it for you to deliver a strong message to your audience?

No matter how upbeat the tracks may be, I still always aim to write lyrics that are easy to connect with and can make sense to everybody and each person’s life.

I love to create slower tracks as I have always felt these bring out the best in my vocal abilities and suit my range perfectly, however, I have tried to slowly merge into more upbeat tracks but still keep the meaningful lyrics as I want people to feel strong and empowered rather than feeling sad in difficult times.

It is very important for me to deliver a strong message to my listeners and the audience that follows, music is there for everybody, and it’s certainly been by my side through thick and thin.

A song and its lyrics can mean so much to somebody and can help guide them through difficult situations so I aim to help people through my songs in my own little way.

Where do you find your inspiration?

I have always said that my own inspiration comes from myself and my own life experiences. Just like everybody else I have struggled and have had some tough times but music is like a journal for me, it’s my way of expressing my emotions and helping others at the same time. If I’m feeling low, I will write a song and explain it through my vocals rather than through a personal diary.

I have come a long way since the beginning of my music career, as well as in my personal life, and I only have to take a look back to where I started to feel inspired to continue. It also helps to get feedback from other people, those who follow my music journey, friends, and family members.. if it helps at least one person, I aim to continue on.

Your songwriting style is pretty unique, mixing both electronic and acoustic instruments together on pop and dance arrangements, and vocals that recall the best R&B acts. Can you reveal what your creative process is? How does your music come to life?

I’ve never been one to follow the crowd and always want to create something different and unique to others. There are many Hip Hop/R&B artists who do amazing work, but I sometimes can’t help but feel they are all very similar in some way. I’ve wanted to stand out and try something different.

I am a big lover of 80’s classics and Synth-Pop, so I try to deliver this but in a more modern style. I have also grown up listening to my dad and step-mum playing acoustic guitar and so I fell in love with acoustic covers at a young age.

My creative process comes from first finding a beat from a producer that best fits the idea I want to achieve at that time, whether I’m feeling upbeat or more heartfelt and slow. It really does depend on what emotion I am feeling and what message I feel fits best to ‘get out there’.

I start by rough writing and recording a chorus and then I fill in the blanks around this, changing my vocal range and adding harmonies as I go. It can take some time to listen to the track over and over again to see what sounds right and what doesn’t or what needs to be added in terms of the beat itself or lyrics. The end product is something I am always very happy with. I am grateful to have a very supportive record label that also gives feedback if they feel something doesn’t sound quite right. The team pulled together to make it great.

If you could collaborate with one of the artists who influenced you and your music, who would you like to share a song and the stage with?

I have always been a huge fan of Lennon Stella, she has a very unique tone to her voice and also writes songs based on her personal experiences. Her lyrics have connected with me more so than any other artists so that would be a dream!

I think her musical talent is outstanding and her songwriting is also very unique and clever.

I have recently started to listen to more and more of Tate Mcrae, like Lennon Stella, a lot of her music is based on personal experiences and therefore resonates with my own life. If I can connect to something emotionally, then I am won over.

Are you planning any live shows for 2023?

I am currently working on more singles in 2023 and my goal for this year is to work with as many other artists on collaborations as I can, simply to expand my abilities and maybe feature on some other genres too as I feel like this will help with my own music career and give me more experience.

I would like to get round to performing at live venues in the near future and set up a few gigs in my local area, that is definitely something on the cards.

Kirstie.V your voice is fantastic. Have you studied with a professional vocal coach or are you a natural singer?

I was taught some basic singing skills from the age of 4, ways to warm up your vocal cords, and how to use a microphone correctly, but I have never used a private vocal coach.

I have simply grown up listening to a lot of music, and a wide range of artists and genres and have studied the way people sing and how they use their vocal abilities to achieve certain results.

I have self-taught the “do’s” and “don’ts” and from experience learned what sounds good and what doesn’t sound good, what sounds repetitive, what sounds unique, and what flows and what doesn’t flow.

I have self-taught in terms of research and finding out ways to control your vocals, how to breathe correctly, and most of all what your own ability and range is and not forcing anything that doesn’t feel or sound right to you.

Will “Lied” be included in the next full-length album? Will it be followed by a new single soon?

I do have another single due to be released soon and this is called “Goodbye” the pre-order and full release date is yet to be confirmed but it will be available on all digital platforms worldwide when it is and I don’t expect it to be much longer now.

‘Goodbye’ is a track I have wanted to create for such a long time, it’s a reworked track of the 80’s classic ‘kiss him goodbye’ by ‘Bananarama’, one of my favourite bands, so I’m very excited for that to be released.

‘Lied’ will most definitely be featuring on my next album.. that may be a little while off as right now I’m working on some single collaborations but I look forwards to getting stuck in on another album for sure!

What are your plans for the future?

I hope to keep making music and exploring the music industry as much as I can. There is so much to be taught and learnt and with every track, I complete I take something new away from it and I definitely learn something different each time.

I’d like to work on more collaborations with different artists, engage in more live performances, and feature on radio stations.

The music industry is absolutely huge, so I aim to remain humble and grateful and any recognition is fantastic for me.

I’m thankful to be able to do what I love and enjoy the most, to help people in the process, to help myself by expressing emotions, to help charities through profits, and to always be truly myself.

So my future plans are to continue doing what I’m doing and to always push myself to succeed in something that means so much to me.

Kirstie.V thank you for being with us at Planet Singer today! Is there anything you would like to say to our readers and your fans?

Thank you for having me at Planet Singer! I’ve really enjoyed answering your questions.

Of course, I’d like to thank those that take the time to check out my songs on digital platforms such as Spotify, Apple Music, and iTunes, each and every stream or download is very much appreciated and the support means a lot to me as so much goes into each and every song.

Those who downloaded my ‘I am woman’ 2022 album I am very grateful as you helped to raise money for ‘Women’s aid’ charity and that is something I will always be thankful for.

If you haven’t yet heard any of my tracks I really do hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed creating them and I’d like to say a big thank you in advance!
