Today, at Planet Singer, we have the great chance to dive into Yona Marie’s world and discover more about her artistic vision, music, and much more!

Hi Yona, thanks a lot for being with us today at Planet Singer. Your latest single tells a lot about you and shows how versatile you are as an artist. We can’t wait to know more about your artistic journey, so let’s start from the very beginning. When did you discover your passion for music?

I discovered my passion for music as I grew up in a very musical family. My father and sisters were responsible for teaching me how to sing and inspiring me to make it into a life-long career.

Your latest single, “I’m Still Loyal,” is a great song that combines memorable melodies and catchy arrangements and conveys a strong and positive message. Can you tell us more about this release?

I was inspired by my parent’ and parents’ in-law’ marriages and how both couples remained loyal through almost 30 years of marriage. It’s a dedication to those who have provided their friends, family members, or romantic partners with unyielding love and loyalty over time.

And talking about songwriting, can you reveal what your creative process is? How does your music come to life?

I like to create most of my songs with the instrumentation ideas coming first and then melodic and lyrical ideas coming after. The only exception is when I create jingles for small businesses. I try to think of a catchy melody and lyric first before even thinking about the instrumentation!

Where do you find your inspiration?

My family is a big source of my inspiration, but I also got a huge chunk of motivation and learning throughout grade school and college, where I was in choirs and studied music.

An inspiring conversation with talented artist Yona Marie!

You are a talented singer, songwriter, writer, producer, and creative with a long career full of great collaborations. What advice would you give to those who are just beginning their musical journey?

My advice would be for beginners to just start creating tons of songs, even before they think of releasing them. When I was a teen, I came up with random song ideas almost every week. This helped me to develop my own style over time.

If you could collaborate with one of the artists who influenced or inspired you, who would you like to share a song with?

I would love to do a collaboration with Lucky Daye. His music taste and voice combined with my talents would be really amazing!

Are you planning any live shows this year?

I’ve been doing a few small love shows in the DC area over the past few months. It’s hard to bring people out for things except for church events, which I regularly perform at.

Your website is also an exciting hub where other artists can find excellent articles, tools, and tips. How important is it for you to share not only your art but also your knowledge?

I just began my journey of sharing my knowledge and tips, so I daresay it’s even more important to me than my own creations at the moment just because of how new and exciting the prospect is.

“Will You Remember” is another incredible and soulful song you released in 2021. Can you tell us more about it?

I created this song after being inspired by “Remember Me” by Henry Purcell. It’s an ancient throwback from the opera Dido & Aeneas all the way back in the 1600s. I wanted to give the story a modern twist!

Fantastic! Among the songs in your brilliant discography, do you feel there is a special one that stands out from the others? Do you think each one of them is somehow linked to the others, like book chapters?

My favorite song that still stands out to me is Just Wanna Love You featuring Eli Way. It was just one of those brilliant collaborations where the pieces came together so perfectly. Many of my collaborations work out amazingly, but this was another level!

What are your plans for the future?

I have tons of plans and visions for my musical future; almost too many for me to even get a good amount of focus on what I want to do now! In the near future, I plan on releasing an EP related to feelings of anxiety and depression.

Yona, it was such a pleasure having you with us today. Is there anything you want to say to our readers and your fans?
