Dutch 3Times, thanks a lot for being with us today. Your Distant Lover Saga is an absolute must-listen to for all R&B and Hip-Hop lovers. I’d like to know more about it, but first, let’s start from the very beginning. How did you first get into music, and when did you realize that songwriting and hip-hop were your true passions?

Well, first of all, thanks for having me and giving me a space to establish and explain my Distant Lover Saga. My love for music began in middle school band class.  That’s what gave me the ear, the theory, and the fundamentals. From there, I had no idea I wanted to be a songwriter until high school. In high school, I had a good friend who grew an interest in beat-making using samples. He was obsessed with this deeply he spent hours making beats . And one day I decided to hear my voice on some of his beats, and the rest is history.

Your Distant Lover saga feels more like a cinematic universe than a traditional discography—what first inspired you to build your music around a multi-chapter narrative?

Well, for the Distant Lover Saga, the stories were always there, it took many years to bring this vision to life.

In the first chapter, Distant Lover, tracks like “Backstreet Girl” immediately set a sensual and narrative-driven tone. Did you already envision the full saga at that stage, or did it evolve organically over time?

“Backstreet Girls” is the premature entry into the story.  This track is a key element in how the story unfolds.  You want something to be Love, feel like love, all the while it’s lust dressed up as love.  Although this is the beginning of the Saga, the first song written for this story is “Only Friends,” released many years after its conception.

Distant Lover 2: This is Lust feels more direct and bold compared to the first chapter. What changed in your mindset or personal experiences that shaped that shift?

Chapter two is where the main character realizes this isn’t love, and maybe it never was.  The disguise is revealed from all angles This is Lust. As the story goes, she explains again they are “Only Friends,” yet the main character yearns for that “One Night”  they will “Find A Way” .  A way to lust.

By the time we reach Distant Lover 3: This is Heartbreak, the emotional weight becomes deeper and more introspective. How did you tap into that vulnerability while still maintaining your artistic identity?

Chapter 3 is the inevitable fall from lust.  It opens with the lines, “She said you don’t even know what love is…”. Even though it’s not love the main character still likes it, whatever it is.  But this type of heartbreak doesn’t hurt, it brings clarity.

The fourth chapter, Love Lust & Heartbreak, blends all previous themes while introducing darker tones. Do you see this project as a turning point in the saga?

Chapter four is not the turning point in the story; it’s more of a continuation of the same repetitive motions in a fragmented love story.

You seamlessly switch between melodic R&B vocals and rap verses. How do you decide when a moment calls for singing versus rapping?

I don’t see my style of music as rapping or singing or in a box of any genre.  For me, the moment calls for whatever the moment calls for.  Maybe the moment calls for silence, or maybe the moment calls for spoken words.  The only reason I can honestly give for why I make the music I make is simply because it feels good in the moment.  Not made for everyone, but it’s made for someone.

Tracks like “Backstreet Girl PT 2” create continuity across chapters. How important is it for listeners to follow the saga in order versus experiencing each project individually?

It’s not necessary to follow the Distant Lover Saga in order; it’s more about finding where you are in life. Love is not linear, but fragmented. One moment you can be in love, but torn by lust, which leads to heartbreak.  Or one moment you can be in lust that turns into undeniable love. Or maybe you’ve already been there, done that, and your heart has been broken, but that doesn’t mean you can’t find love.
With Distant Lover 5 set to release in June 2026, what can fans expect in terms of emotional direction and sonic evolution? Are we moving toward resolution, or deeper complexity?

Distant Lover 5: Under the Covers.  It’s what you’ve always wanted, it’s the place lovers go, and it’s the opening to foreverness.  It’s the innerstanding that nothing else in life matters without love. The first song “My Last” starts with this line, “always needed someone like you if I’m right here then where did you run to?  I’ll give you my last…”
