Hello Michael, thank you for being with us today! While listening to your pieces, I immediately felt how your music blends the storytelling traditions of country with the energy and grit of rock. What first inspired you to pursue this particular sound, and which artists had the biggest influence on your musical journey?
Hello, and thank you for having me. Well, I grew up around classic old-school hard rock and 80s metal bands, so I’ve always had an affinity for that high-energy type of music. After living through some personal tragedy and loss, my own personal writing/journaling/therapy is kind of more in line with the storytelling of country. So I think it’s a combination of the soundtrack on my youth mixed with my life experiences that have kind of naturally made me blend these two styles together. The artists that have the biggest impact on me are those classic rock and metal bands, everything from Aerosmith to Metallica to AC/DC to Stone Temple Pilots, Guns N’ Roses. The bands that I mostly listen to now are Luke Combs, Jelly Roll, Morgan Wallen, and Gavin Adcock. Love the melodies and storytelling, as well as that dark outlaw country vibe.
Before we dive into your latest releases, can you tell us a bit about your personal path into music? When did you first discover your passion for songwriting and performing, and what motivated you to share your stories through music?
My personal path/introduction to Music was through my older brother Ronnie. He would take me to concerts in the summertime and basically introduced me to all those hard rock bands. Those experiences of seeing bands play live made me want to do it myself, so the first thing I ever wanted to do was to write my own songs. After losing my brother tragically in a car accident, Music became my therapy. It’s what helped me get through every day, just writing down thoughts and feelings, which has developed into what it is today.
Your career has seen remarkable growth, with millions of streams, a rapidly expanding fanbase, and multiple #1 positions on Amazon’s New Release and Movers and Shakers charts. How has this journey changed your perspective as an artist?
It’s actually pretty surreal putting your thoughts, feelings, and life experiences into music and finding out that millions of other people are experiencing the same exact thing, and can identify with what you have to say. I believe everybody has a story to tell, and I think all of us can identify with parts of each other’s lives, even though the circumstances may be different.

“Never Letting Anyone” has such a fun, upbeat, and carefree energy. What was the inspiration behind the song, and how did the story at its core come to life?
The inspiration behind that song comes from me pursuing my girlfriend Erin. She was playing pretty hard to get, and we were hanging out one night in a local bar and she was singing karaoke and I was trying really hard to make her my girlfriend, and I decided to write that experience down. The rest is history.
The track perfectly captures the excitement and frustration of pursuing someone who keeps their guard up. Why do you think this theme resonates so strongly with listeners?
I think it resonates very strongly with people because it’s real; it happened to me. I’m sure it has happened to many other people as well.
The music video for “Never Letting Anyone” perfectly complements the song’s playful and energetic atmosphere. What was the creative vision behind the video, and what was the experience of filming it like?
The creative vision behind the video was trying to recapture and re-create that evening in the karaoke bar between Erin and myself. And I’d like to thank the entire crew for bringing that to life in video. I think they did a remarkable job.
Your latest single, “Never Be The Same,” explores grief, memory, and the lasting impact people leave on our lives. Was there a specific experience or moment that inspired this deeply emotional song?
That song is obviously about the loss of my brother Ronnie and my personal coping mechanisms dealing with that. I feel that song is written in a way that it can mean that for anyone who’s lost someone. I think that’s why so many people identify with these themes of love and loss, as well as fun times chasing a girl.
The song feels incredibly personal and universal at the same time. How did you approach writing a song about loss in a way that listeners from different backgrounds could connect with?
Well, I didn’t set out to write it that way; it’s just my personal experience with loss, but I think everybody can relate to that in some way or another.

The contrast between the upbeat spirit of “Never Letting Anyone” and the emotional depth of “Never Be The Same” highlights your versatility as a songwriter. Do you consciously try to explore different emotional perspectives in your music, or does each song naturally find its own direction?
My writing is just about my life, my experiences, whether that be having fun chasing a girl or dealing with the tragic loss of somebody very close to me. I write about what I’m feeling, whether that’s an upbeat, fun song or a sorrowful, sad song. I think there’s always a message in there that everybody can identify with.
You record in Nashville alongside acclaimed producer Stacy Hogan. Can you tell us about your creative partnership and how the two of you work together to bring your songs to life?
Well, I can’t say enough great things about Stacy Hogan. Working with him has elevated my career to a level I only dreamt of. Stacy is a super talented, musically gifted individual, and I’m very lucky to have the honor and privilege to work with him.
Outside of music, you have an extraordinary career as an anesthesiologist working in a trauma unit. How does that experience influence your songwriting, your outlook on life, and the themes you choose to explore in your music?
To be honest, I went into healthcare in the medical field to help people. After the tragic loss of my brother, I had this overwhelming urge to help, and I could not help him, which made me feel extremely useless. Now I’m able to fill that void with helping others.
Michael, it was such a pleasure having you with us today. Looking ahead, what can fans expect from Michael Raven in the coming months? Are there new singles, an EP, an album, or perhaps live performances that you’re particularly excited to share?
