Miss Freddye, it is a pleasure having you with us today! Everything, from your voice to your music, is the pure representation of what authentic Blues is! But let’s start from the beginning. When did you discover this passion?

I started singing blues in 1996 when I joined my first blues band, “BMW” (Blues Music Works). As a child, I would sing with a couple of friends, whatever the latest music was out. It just continued.

Where do you find your inspiration?

I am inspired by a few things in life. Life stories, whether it’s mine or someone else’s. As a nurse, I find inspiration thru taking care of my patients. When I collaborate with other musicians, I listen and appreciate what they share. This inspires me to continue to do what I love!

You are such an inspiration, an outstanding artist, and you have been very active with many charities as well. Can you tell us how important it is for you to be present and sustain those in need?

I know how important it is to give back and all the while remain humble. I have been taught growing up to treat people the way I want to be treated. I do not need any “high fives” or awards to do what is right. At one time. I was someone who needed help. There were several good people who helped me. I will never forget that. As my motto goes….” what I do is not mine to keep!”.

Your latest single, “Wade in the Water,” is brilliant. The arrangement, the lyrics, your performance; everything is perfectly balanced, and the result is outstanding, iconic. Can you tell us more about this song?

This song I learned as a child. I did not know the “meaning” behind it until I became an adult. This song was published in 1901. It has been said that this song came about long before it was published. I chose this song became it remains of a call to something positive, something greater than all of us.

You have been collaborating with many artists in the past, and you have been a Blues Lady your whole life. Do you think Blues music changed or evolved during the years?

I think it has. There is the younger generation coming up and branding their own interpretations. I think it is slowly evolving to appeal to the younger audience. The younger musicians still learn from the past blues people. Keeping the blues alive remains first and foremost.

What do you think of the contemporary music scene? Any new artist you like particularly?

Like with other genres of music, this is changing. I listen to contemporary music, especially Whitney Huston. There are so many that I listen to. But, I have always loved her voice and how she commanded her audience.

If you could collaborate with one of the artists who inspired you the most, who would you like to share the stage with?

My biggest influence is Koko Taylor. She was a fierce blues woman who commanded her audience with the best of her blues music!

Your voice is fantastic. Did you study singing with a vocal coach, or are you a natural singer?

I am all-natural. I never took lessons. I listened and watched other musicians for my lessons. I am still doing it!

What are your plans for the future?

I hope to tour Europe in 2022. I have another single due to come out soon. I am working on a gospel roots album to come out in late summer, early fall.

It was such a pleasure chatting with you today! We wish you all the best with your music, and we can’t wait for your next release! Is there something you would like to say to our readers?

I want to thank everyone for continuing their support for the music I do. Music definitely brings about a curiosity, a will to explore what limitless possibilities there are. Remember, “Blues is more than just a Faze!”
