WAIL – “Civilization Maximus” Exclusive Review!

Every artist is different, and this is not a matter of genre or sound. Every artist has a different vision of the music they create, a picture that often changes with time and leads to unexplored soundscapes. When it comes to bands and especially metal bands, it is not only a matter of vision or approach. Bands like Wail are different from the thousands of other acts because they are genuine, love what they do, and are damn good at it! When we first listened to their single “Endless Repetition,” it was crystal clear that these five talented artists were creating something special, and we were right! Today, at Planet Singer, we have the great pleasure of listening to their album “Civilization Maximus,” an album that will reveal a lot about their talent and the band’s great potential!

Wail is a Heavy Metal band from Lillehammer, Norway. Gifted with incredible charisma and stamina, the band shaped its sound, incorporating the best vibes of the Metal of the golden ages, revisited with their personal touch, modern arrangements, and that unique sound that is now Wail’s trademark!

Introduced by the fantastic single “Endless Repetition,” “Civilization Maximus” follows their first release “Resilient” (2018), produced by Kjartan Hestehaugen and Ronni Le Tekrø (TNT). It is already from the opening track “Down The Mountain” that we can feel that these guys have put all their energies in creating this masterpiece. Exciting and powerful from the first second, the track is a storm of fast drummings, catchy riffs, and the fantastic vocals lines that achieve an epicness rare nowadays. The incredible vocal range and engaging choruses make this track not only the perfect opening for the album, but also a true metal hymn!

“Endless Repetition” follows smoothly with its great rhythm and powerful riffs, leading to the mid-tempo “Presage,” a track that will show another side of this fantastic band! Great guitar lines, followed by the great rhythms of drum and bass, introduce us to “Through the Ice,” Once again, the band takes us to a higher new level of awesomeness! The beautiful melodies of “No Hesitation” and the energetic “You’ve Got Nothing” are another proof of the maturity of the band; the fantastic arrangement and great songwriting also shine thanks to the very well written and intense lyrics! The exciting “Manherder” and the unstoppable “Overwhelming” follow right away, and we can fell how impressive the sound wall of the band is.

The title track “Civilization Maximus” closes the circle with powerful riffs, strong rhythmics, and, once again, fantastic vocal lines that describe exciting melodies. One of the things that make Wail stand out is their ability to create powerful tracks that, at the same time, transmit a strong message through meaningful lyrics, a quality we rarely find among the majority of metal bands nowadays. Great songs, outstanding presence and stamina, fantastic arrangements, and the stellar production of Riccardo Daga at Titans LAB Studio make of this “Civilization Maximus” one of the best metal releases of 2020 and probably one of the best of this decade!

BAND’S BIO:

Satire. A word that lost it’sits weight the day the world became so obscure that yesterday’s satirical content became the day’s news. It’s time to step up the game.

Enter Wail!

The infamous Norwegian heavy metal quintet, best known as preachers of the ‘apocalypse of the civilized world’ and being observed claiming responsibility for catastrophes such as global warming, epidemics, and commercial radio. They seem to be using their mesmerizing heavy metal music to lure young and old into their cultist organization.

A spokesman of the group has been quoted with the following comment regarding the choice of musical direction: “I’m intelligent. Some people would say I’m very, very, very intelligent. According to my research, Heavy Metal is the most commercially available, sexy, and danceable genre out there. It was quite obvious, really”.

The band has been nurtured, cultivated, and refined to write, perform and seduce on a level that few can assert to; this is under close observation of the terrifying and quite flamboyant frontman under the name «The Singer.»

The dust has just settled after their debut album «Resilient» 2018, produced by Kjartan Hestehaugen and Ronni Le Tekrø(TNT). The follow-up album «Civilization Maximus,» Produced by Titan Labs studio/Riccardo Daga, is expected to be released late summer of 2020. The follow-up album, produced by Titan Labs studio/Riccardo Daga, releases September 18, 2020. «Civilization Maximus» features nine tracks circulating a theme of manipulation/indoctrination as the band ventures deeper into the antagonistic rabbit hole.

Wail has been getting recognition as a hard-working live band on both festival and club scenes, and the response is usually in the vein of ‘International standard’ and ‘who or what the hell are these people?’. The group prefers not to discuss the latter. Get ready to rejoice in salvation, tribalism, and an oblique glance at extremism.
